IJ Logo

Grandma's story of dotting the Y:  You may notice that the spelling of our family's last name "Van Wyk" and the name of our winery "Van Wijk" are slighly different.  IJ written in cursive appears like a Y with two dots above it. One day when he was little, Roger observed his great grandmother writing her name and asked her why she was dotting her Y.  She explained that "IJ" was the 25th letter of the Dutch Alphabet, and when many of our Dutch ancestors came from the Netherlands through Ellis Island, they changed the old dutch spelling from IJ to the new Americanized Y. Grandma's explanation served as the inspiration for our logo.
